Trichology is the scientific study of hair, its diseases and care.  It comes from the Greek words trichos (hair) and ology (the study of).

Many hair stylists have attended additional training classes to further understand the hair and offer viable treatment options for their clients.

Many salon services today affect different hair types and having a background and basic understanding of trichology will help to achieve good results.

In many cases a certified trichologist will be able to help you with your hair loss problem.  It is best to seek medical advice when experiencing any unusual hair loss as it could be the result of a serious illness or condition that only a medical doctor can diagnose.

A trichologist can do any of the following during your visit:

  • Examine your scalp and identify the problem
  • Discuss your medical history to work out the cause of the problem and decide on appropriate therapy
  • Treat many scalp problems such as dandruff, itchiness of the scalp, hair loss, baldness and excessive oiliness
  • Examine your hair under a  microscope
  • Apply various ointments or lotions to the scalp, massage
  • Give advise on chemical processing such as hair coloring, perms and hair straightening
  • Treat damage sustained by the hair or scalp as a result of the misuse of chemical processing mentioned above.
